Paraluman whose real name was Sigrid Sophia Agatha von Giese was born on December 14, 1923 in Tayabas, Quezon, of a German father and a Filipino mother in Tayabas, Quezon. She passed away on April 27, 2009 at the age of 85 due to cardiac arrest.

Paraluman was a major contract star of Sampaguita Pictures and was a contemporary of Fernando Poe Sr. and Marlene Dauden. Paraluman starred in over 60 movies from 1940 to the late 70s. Paraluman's legendary status in Philippine show business and captivating beauty merited her an inclusion in the lyrics of "Ang Huling El Bimbo", one of the most popular songs of Filipino rock band, The Eraserheads. Paraluman was also mentioned in the lyrics of the song "Binibini" by Filipino group, The Rainmakers. A Filipino rock band was also named after the late actress, Paraluman.
